Lachlan was born and raised in Sydney, New South Wales. A product of the Little Athletics system, Lachlan's talent was first recognized in 2002 when he took out the Greater Public Schools (GPS) Open 800m title as a year 9 student at Sydney Grammar School.

It’s amazing how quickly time passes when your having fun.. And as training like a mad man 2-3 times a day with some of the worlds best athletes for the last 4 months is my idea of fun, I actually can’t believe it was that along ago that I was lining up at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Post Delhi, I took a 10 day holiday around India with my family. You’d call it more of a ‘cultural experience’ than a holiday, but it was the first time in over 2 years (since Beijing ’08) that I’d taken a few days off completely abandoning any sort of physical exertion. Bliss...
